Following an exhaustive external audit, Avonside Group Services are delighted to have been recognised as fully compliant with the updated ISO 45001, 2 years ahead of the scheduled deadline.
The recognition of compliance with the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) standard for occupational health and safety has been achieved thanks to the unwavering commitment of all management staff within the Group, from Board level down to the operational levels at each branch.
Under the successful leadership of Group Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Manager, Sarah Burke and the Health and Safety team, Avonside have embedded policies and processes that have delivered a standardised management approach across all areas of the Group. The fact the Group has accomplished this 2 years ahead of schedule is an example of Avonside setting standards and leading the industry.
The compliance covers areas such as vetting and approval of contractors working with the Group and root and branch evaluation of areas of risk backed by policies that actively reduce hazards across all areas of the business. Avonside are proud to have developed strong management commitment to the process, demonstrated by management reviews, operations meetings, business reporting, and the setting of key goals and objectives, further supported by the Group’s measurement of the business against those objectives.
According to the ISO website, which cites the International Labour Organisation as its source, over 7,600 people die each day as a result of work-related accidents or diseases. These deaths lead to negative impacts on employers and the economy, causing early retirements, staff absences and rising insurance premiums. The ISO 45001 standard was created by a committee of occupational health and safety professionals and aims to help organisations enhance employee safety, eradicate and minimise workplace risks and foster better, safer working conditions.
Avonside’s Group Chief Operations Director, Andrew Morley commented:
‘We are delighted to have achieved ISO 45001 at such an advanced stage relative to the deadline. I believe this is a testament to the strength of our management teams, strong forward planning and the ongoing commitment of all of our workforce.’
We are also pleased to announce that all the recently acquired Avonside Group businesses are now certified under the Group Management System.
This means that:
ISO 14001 sets out the criteria for an environmental management system that an organisation can follow and use to stay on top of their environmental responsibilities, ensuring that sustainable, eco-friendly and energy-efficient practices are adhered to.
Meanwhile, ISO 9001:2015 outlines the criteria for a quality management system and is underpinned by several quality management principles including a committed customer focus, the process approach, ongoing improvement and the motivation and implication of those in top management positions.
Our Group SHEQ Manager, Sarah Burke said:
“As the group recently transitioned to the new 45001 standard two years before it becomes compulsory, this has meant that the new businesses had to be very quick in establishing a benchmark standard, and expediting any actions set for improvements required to meet the group management system standards.
“This has meant a high level of commitment from the branch managers to implement the standards, some of whom have never been through such a stringent audit process both internally and externally before and did not really know what to expect.
“I am very pleased that all branches under the Avonside Group of companies are now fully certified.”
