Sarah Burke, Avonside’s Health and Safety training coordinator, visited LCB (Leeds College of Building) to give a careers talk which provided LCB students with a real-world insight on the industry. The aim of the day was to inspire the students and help them launch their roofing careers!
As part of our efforts to support the youngsters in their development, Avonside donated a substantial amount of PPE to the college. One lucky roofing apprentice, Ben Foston, was further recognised with an award presented by Sarah on behalf of the Managing Director, Tony Burke.
Ben received the award for his contunued outstanding commitment to his studies and was presented with a certificate and his own bag stuffed full of PPE, including clothing items.
Tony Burke added, “We feel it is important for the large employers form within the industry to interact with students and apprentices, to give them advice today, on how they will contribute to the future of the industry.”
It is also essential to encourage the next generation of skilled workers, and it is for this reason we recognised Ben Foston at Leeds College of Building for his continued effort towards his qualifications.”
“Our donation of PPE will also well equip the students at Leeds College of Building, assisting the college to continue with the fantastic work they are doing,” Tony concluded.
Avonside’s Business Development Manager for the North Eastern region, John Dervey, had some advice for the students.
