Avonside Group Celebrate an Award Win at CCISY Annual Awards

Avonside Group Health and Safety Training Co-ordinator, Sarah Burke, picked up the award for Achiever of the year at the Celebrating Construction in South Yorkshire Awards. The CCISY Awards were held on Friday 9th October at the Cutlers’ Hall, Sheffield,

Not only did Avonside Group win the Achiever of the Year Award, but they were also nominated in two further categories; Training Award and Health and Safety Award.

The CCISY Awards bring together representatives from housing providers and construction firms across South Yorkshire and promote a range of different sectors essential to the delivery of innovative construction.

Sarah Burke joined Avonside Group in September 2014 and since then has consistently coordinated health and safety training, to ensure that Avonside Group staff and 1200+ labour only partner’s qualifications remain current and 100% compliant with legislation. Sarah has also coordinated 30 new Avonside Group apprentices, an increase of 275% based on previous intake. Sarah’s tenacious approach has seen Avonside Group training days since September 2014 reach 1312.

She has also opened up contacts with the Career Transition Partnership to enable Avonside Group to actively recruit ex-service leavers. Additionally, she is currently working in partnership with the Welsh National Training Group, in conjunction with the DWP, to encourage the unemployed on to a 14 week sc

heme. Avonside Group are proud to have pledged to employ at last two people on the pilot scheme.

Tony Burke, Group Managing Director, commented “For Sarah to come into this role at Avonside Group which didn’t previously exist and to achieve all of what she has in under 12 months is a fantastic achievement and makes for a worthy award winner.”

The Children’s Hospital Charity was the chosen charity for CCISY this year and £2500 was raised on the night to support their work at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The donation comes at a fundamental time in the charity’s Make it Better appeal, which urgently needs funds to build a brand new wing at the hospital, on Western Bank.

The CCISY Awards will be held again in October 2016.
