Our SHEQ Manager, Sarah Burke and Northern Roofing Quality Inspector, Daniel Wood thoroughly enjoyed attending a Forces in Construction Insight Day at Coleg Cambria College in North Wales on Wednesday 10th October, where they helped promote roofing career opportunities to former Forces personnel.
Avonside were proud to have a stand alongside the likes of CITB, North West Roof Training, The Ministry of Defence and The NFRC amongst others, as professionals provided interested former Services personnel with information about the opportunities that roofing, construction and civil engineering careers can bring. A list of our current job vacancies was projected onto the Avonside Stand 12, which never saw a dull moment throughout the interactive showcase event!
Sarah and Daniel worked with Alastair Blant from Redland BMI at the roofing rig we had set up as he demonstrated slating and tiling to potential job applicants. Sarah even tried her hand at liquid applied roofing and slating (see photo below)!
At a time when the roofing industry is facing large-scale skills-shortages, the event, organised by the CITB in association with Kier Group and CTP, couldn’t have been better timed, with many industry professionals appreciating how the positive attitude, experience and discipline of former Service personnel can stand them in good stead for a fulfilling and rewarding career in roofing.
