For a lot of housebuilders, choosing which roofing contractor they hire involves a lot of trust. It goes without saying that the roofing contractor selected to carry out roofing works will no doubt have the appropriate accreditations, roofing qualifications and a demonstrable track record for high standards. The roofing company will also only employ fully qualified staff.
Here at Avonside Group, we take pride in investing in our staff members’ development, from management and supervisory levels all the way to our apprentices and trainees. Every achievement is important, and everyone deserves to be celebrated! That’s why we thought we’d do a round-up of just some of our staff members’ latest achievements…
Our Avonside Wigan Roofing branch Estimator, Robbie Leech gained his Level 3 NVQ in Construction Contracting Operations (Estimating) and was awarded his certificate in January.
Robbie’s qualification was a work (office) based evidential NVQ carried out in conjunction with 3B Training.
Dedicated and diligent Robbie had around 9 months to gather all the evidence required to gain the qualification, which included site-based evidence too. By all accounts, the course was a time-consuming but worthwhile one, with Robbie having to fit his studies in around his daily workload, showing just how prepared he was to go the extra mile.
Avonside Wigan Branch Director, Ian Clarke said:
“I would comment that Robbie showed commitment and hard work in gathering the supporting documentation required to gain this qualification, bearing in mind the amount of work he produces on a daily basis.
The likes of Robbie are going to be the future of our business and he deserves a large amount of praise for his efforts.”
A congratulations is also in order for Luke Firth, Trainee Assistant Contracts Manager at our Leicester Residential Roofing branch who recently achieved his Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision!
The Occupational Work Supervision qualification is aimed at experienced operatives in their skilled trade that are responsible for overseeing a group of same skill operatives and commonly referred to as gangers or foremen who are looking to obtain a Gold CSCS Card.
The course involves an assessor reviewing the learner using a variety of techniques, including evidence produced from the workplace, work-related discussions, observations, witness testimonials and written questions on site. Learners are required to collect evidence of:
We’re equally proud of our Avonside Braintree Roofing branch who were crowned ‘Employer of the Year’ in February by Eastern Region Roof Training Group Ltd for “all the fantastic work they’ve done over the past year with their pitched Roofing Apprentices.”
We’re honoured that Steven Blake and his Avonside Braintree branch were the recipients of this award, which was only introduced by the Eastern Region Roof Training Group Ltd this year for the first time.
The award recognises companies that have provided the best support to their apprentices as well as support for Apprenticeships in the Roofing industry as a whole.
According to Eastern Region Roof Training Group Ltd:
“Avonside Roofing Braintree has been exemplary in their support for their Apprentices over the past years, resulting in their Roofing Apprentices picking up Eastern Roof Training’s Apprentice of the Year 2019 and the much-coveted Skill Build Pitched Roofing joint first place.“
We certainly are proud of our Braintree branch for being recognised for their commitment to nurturing future roofing talent!
And last but by no means least we’d like to say well done to Jon Upsher for recently achieving his Level 6 NVQ in Construction Contracting Operations Management. Jon, who works at our Avonside Cannock Roofing branch as a Contracts Manager, completed his course with 3B Training.
The Construction Contracting Operations Management NVQ is aimed at those already working in a construction management role, overseeing contracting operations.
The main areas learners have to demonstrate competency in are:
