During WW2 Bletchley Park was the home to the Codebreakers whose work is said to have helped shorten the war.
Bletchley Park is a listed building; the largest Letchworth Roofing has ever worked on throughout its trading history, and run by The Bletchley Park Trust.
Currently the listed buildings are undergoing an £8m Heritage Lottery Funded first phase restoration programme, within which Avonside Roofing are making good and recovering the existing roof with IKO felt including insulation.
The project is to transform the formerly derelict wartime Codebreaking building into a vibrant Visitors Centre.
Letchworth Roofing have completed the roof one building, and are now undertaking works on the iconic , but derelict, Codebreaking Huts 3 and 6, both will be sympathetically restored to reflect how it was to work at Bletchley Park during WW2.
To protect the listed building during the restoration project a temporary roof was erected.
The original roof prior to works being undertaken was in need of significant care and attention, all fascia’s and guttering replacements had to match exactly those currently in situ.
All the lichens, moss and other debris accumulated over the years had to be cleared, without causing any damage to the structural composite of the existing flat roof.
Brief list of trades required included:
To meet the design and work specifications Avonside overlay the existing roof with the new IKO felt roof, including insulation, one very welcome addition to the original design specifications of the listed building.
With Bletchley Park restoration being totally funded by the Bletchley Park Trust (a charitable organisation dependant on donations) all costs are closely monitored by them. Therefore all cost saving efficiency through the purchase of materials at discounted prices, plus a streamlined programme of delivery, played a vital factor in strengthening the relationship between all stakeholders.
This exacting and supportive customer service provided by Avonside, including the expertise provided by the tradespeople, design and management team were part of the reason additional works have been assigned to them.
