This £180,000 roof tiling project has had pleasing outcomes for our Avonside Roofing Edinburgh branch.
With works beginning in August 2020, we delivered high-quality roof tiling works to 46 new build plots on client Cala Homes (East) Ltd.’s Ravensheugh Brae site in Musselburgh. The site has earned the Site Manager Gavin McCann a coveted NHBC Pride in the Job quality award making it one of the best sites in the country in terms of quality standards!
Works on the site, which boasts three-, four-, and five-bedroomed light and spacious family homes and is located just six miles from Edinburgh, have an estimated completion date of January 2022.
Russell Roof Tiles’ Highland tiles with associated fixings and ridge tiles were chosen for the project. Providing the same aesthetic as small states or tiles when laid broken bonded, Highland tiles are known for their durability with all Russell tiles being made from the resilient material concrete.
Russell Roof Tiles pride themselves on manufacturing tiles to be compliant with BS EN 490, “Concrete Roof Tiles and Fittings for Roof Covering and Wall Cladding – Product Specifications” and BS EN 491, “Concrete Roof Tiles and Fittings for Roof Covering and Wall Cladding – Test Methods” requirements.
Other products utilised include the UV Resistant and air-permeable Proctor Roofshield and SRT Gold 50x25mm battens. Proctor’s Roofshield is a three-layer polypropylene breather membrane that gives a reliable second barrier to the ingress of wind, rain, and snow.
Meanwhile, SRT Premium Gold Graded Battens meets the requirements of BS 8417:2011 + A1:2014 (Preservation of wood) and BS 5534:2014 + A2:2018 (Slating and tiling or pitched roofs and vertical cladding). The visual grading of these battens helps limit deterioration such as decay, insect attacks, the number of knots, fissures and splits, and wane.
As was to be expected, the project has been impacted slightly by supply chain problems, including material and third-party transport issues, but forward-thinking and strategic organisation was key to the roofing work’s success. All works were planned, programmed, and in keeping with Avonside Group’s SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality) plan. Health and safety were stringently monitored by Avonside Group Supervisors and the on-site SSSTS (Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme) squad foreman. Our Operative David Mackie was selected for an SSSTS qualification just before this project began.
All works were delivered in a safe manner by fully trained, experienced operatives. Ongoing toolbox talks were delivered by Avonside Group staff to the site team to ensure safety, the environment, and high standards were always front of mind for those working on the site.
As a Group, we always aim to meet or exceed standards and expectations wherever possible.
To this end, Site Manager and Pride in the Job winner Gavin McCann said:
“I can’t say anything negative about the team at Avonside [Roofing Edinburgh]. They’re all really pleasant to deal with and really, really good to work with. I’ve had no problem working with them at all and luckily we’ve not been too bad when it’s come to the supply chain and materials shortages”.
