Avonside Group Services is one of Britain’s largest roofing contractors with 29 strong branch network. Our specialist solar PV division Avonside Renewables installs in excess of 2MW of PV every year to new build residential & commercial, public and community buildings.
Rugby Borough Council elected to employ Avonside Renewables for the installation of 132kWp of solar PV to 3 key buildings:
*Generation figures for year 1
**Carbon Dioxide emissions offset based on 0.519kg of CO2 per kWh
The contract was secured via an OJEU eProcurement tender; Avonside’s technical expertise and experience, in both roofing and solar PV, secured the trust of the Rugby BC team and ultimately the works.
Our expertise proved invaluable; part of the roof on Tanser Court needed to be replaced prior to the works beginning. The roofing works for Avonside were unexpected but a welcome addition to the contract value; As our PV installers are also qualified and experienced roofing operatives, we were able to save Rugby BC time and money by already being on location and utilising the height access equipment in place.
John Barford carpark has 2 flood lights, each approximately 6 meters in height, sighted centrally amongst the array of PV panels. Shading management had to be utilised to avoid significant losses in generation; SolarEdge’s optimisers and inverter combination regulates panels individually, getting the most of each panel possible.
Additionally the inverters allow remote monitoring through the SolarEdge web portal, available world-wide via PCs and mobile devices. Each panel within the solar array can be individually monitored for performance. System or panel faults are reported instantly via SMS or email.
An integrated feature in SolarEdge power optimizers and inverters is the only system that ensures complete safety for installers, maintenance personnel and firefighters. The system works by shutting down DC Current at panel level when the inverter is turned off or in safety mode. DC wires are automatically de-energised and the output from each panel falls to 1V.
Bespoke public displays were installed in the communal areas within Tanser Court and Albert Square. These displays can be customised to the clients requirements but typically have a photograph of the array as the background and a brief explanation of installed system size. The display shows current generation, lifetime total energy generation and CO2 reduction.
