Bracknell Roofing Ringmer (part of Avonside Group) enjoyed delivering roof tiling, flat roofing, and leadwork services for their client, Principal Contractor Lawrence Baker Ltd’s St Wilfred’s Hospice in Chichester.

Lawrence Baker Ltd is undertaking the work for Frontier Estates Ltd. St Wilfred’s Hospice features a flat roof and 20 full lead dormers.

Which Products Were Used?

Forticrete Hardrow Solos Russet/Brown concrete tiles were used for one half of the roof whilst Sandtoft New Rivius Clay Roof Tiles – Antique Slate was utilised for the remaining half. A WestWood Liquid Roofing system was also used.

Why Were These Products Chosen?

Roofing tiling on St Wilfred's Hospice by Bracknell Roofing Ringmer for Lawrence Baker Ltd Both Forticrete Hardrow Solos concrete tiles and Sandtoft New Rivius Clay Roof tiles were chosen as they each blended seamlessly with the surrounding buildings and area, so much so that the Hardrow Solos tiles, which are not common to Southern UK roofs, were used on one side of the roof to match the houses at the back of the site and the Sandtoft Rivus tiles were fitted to be sympathetic to the look of the houses situated at the front of the site.

Hardrow Solos offer a unique visual quality as they are intentionally manufactured to vary slightly in size, thickness, and shape to improve the character of a roof. This individuality creates a coveted traditional appearance.

Sandtoft New Rivius Clay Roof Tiles – Antique Slate bring all the visual benefits of traditional slate, such as the intricate texture, defined detail, and lack of colour fading, but for a cost-effective price, whilst being easy and fast to install as there is no need for double lapping.

Every tile was mechanically clipped and nailed in accordance with the respective manufacturer’s specification.

Project Success

Bracknell Roofing are proud to say they kept to the £170,000 budget and finished the roofing work within the deadline (roofing works commenced from December 2020, concluding in February 2021). Waste materials were disposed of responsibly to minimise the environmental impact and Health and Safety regulations, including COVID-19 safety measures, were meticulously followed.

The project helped provide some of Bracknell Roofing’s staff some valuable experience as a couple of roof tiling and slating trainees worked on the site under suitable supervision, demonstrating Bracknell Roofing’s core value of investing in the next generation of roofers.
