The Opportunity

Avonside Group are delighted to be recruiting for a new Group Finance Manager to join our team in Heywood.

This is a great opportunity for a technical accountant from either a practice or industry financial accounting background. This role is pivotal to the business and will provide a great platform for recognition/development.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Management of one direct report, responsible for staff appraisals and development.
  • Management of the group wide financial reporting, ensuring month end and year end procedures are appropriate and adhered to.
  • In conjunction with the FP&A manager, coordinate the collection of information from divisions for month end and year end reporting.
  • Verification and challenge of group balances in terms of accuracy, validity and accounting treatment (including balance sheet reconciliations).
  • Ownership of intercompany matrix and resolution of differences.
  • Drafting of statutory accounts and analysis of data for tax packs.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of tax returns (CIS, PAYE, VAT and CT).
  • Provide technical expertise and advice on accounting and tax matters, liaising with finance team members, tax advisors or auditors as required.
  • Key team member in the delivery of the annual external audit, ensuring adequate preparation, timely management of requests and maintaining excellent communication throughout.
  • Input into the improvement of the control environment within the group; introducing or updating policies and procedures and monitoring compliance through controls testing.
  • Supporting the central finance team or wider group with any additional adhoc duties.

What You Bring

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA Qualified
  • Strong technical understanding/experience
  • Natural ability to coach and develop finance members within the group
  • Excellent attention to detail and adept at identifying potential issues within reporting
  • Ability to investigate and challenge where needed
  • Strong team player
